Southridge leads 2022 Southwestern Indiana Fans Choice All-Area team

Friday December 30, 2022

As selected by 441 fans, the Southridge Raiders headlined AlmanacSports.com's seventh annual Southwestern Indiana Fans Choice All-Area Football Team with six selections, including player and coach of the year.

Player of the Year: Reid Schroeder (Southridge)

Schroeder, who has already received several accolades, including being named All-State, selected as MVP on the All-PAC Small School team and included on the Courier & Press's All-Southwestern Indiana team, can add Player of the Year, too. He finished with 1,402 career rushing yards and 30 touchdowns. And while his days on the gridiron may be over, he'll be wrestling for Army at the college level. It was a tighter race than usual, but the running back received over 30% of the vote and becomes the first Raider in the seven-year history of the Fans Choice team to receive the honor.

Coach of the Year: Scott Buening (Southridge)

Buening was voted coach of the year for a record-setting third time in the past six years. The Raiders head coach received 37% of the vote after leading his team to the Regional Championship.
